Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. Everything works without one, and your progress stays on your device. An optional account, for ages 13 and up, backs up your progress and notes, syncs them between your devices, and lets you join a class or add friends.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone and iPad, with iOS 17 or later. It isn't on Android yet.
Is it out yet?
Not yet. Heavenward is coming soon to the App Store.
Can kids use it?
Yes, alongside a parent or guardian, with no account. Accounts, classes and friends are for ages 13 and up.
Your account and data
Delete your account
In the app, open the Profile tab, tap the gear for Settings, then Account, then Delete account. This permanently erases your account, your backup, your synced notes and your class memberships from our servers. Your progress on the device stays until you delete it, too.
Can't get into the app? Email privacy@heavenward.app from the address you signed in with, and we'll delete your account and reply within 30 days.
Delete the data on this device
Settings, then Your data, then Delete all data on this phone. This clears progress, Bible notes and settings on the device and signs you out. It doesn't delete your account; do that under Account.
Start over without deleting notes
Settings, then Your data, then Reset progress. It clears lessons, XP, streaks, quests and badges, and keeps your Bible notes and settings.
Export your data
Settings, then Your data, then Export my data, then Share my data file. You get a file with your progress, notes and journal that you can save or send anywhere. To share just your Bible notes and highlights, open the Bible tab, then My notes, then Export.
Crash reports and usage numbers
They're off unless you switch them on in Settings, under Privacy. They're anonymous, carry no lasting number, and are never linked to your account, name or notes. Switch them off again any time.
Heavenward Plus and purchases
Restore purchases
On a new device, or after reinstalling: Settings, then Get Heavenward Plus, then Restore purchases. Use the same Apple Account you bought with.
Redeem a code
Got a gift or invite code? Settings, then Get Heavenward Plus, then Redeem a code.
Manage or cancel your subscription
In the app: Settings, then Manage subscription (it appears while Heavenward Plus is active). Or on your iPhone or iPad: the Settings app, then your name (your Apple Account), then Subscriptions. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and a free trial becomes a paid plan unless you cancel before it ends.
Refunds
Apple handles payments and refunds, under Apple's policies. You can ask for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. We never see your payment details.
Heavenward Plus through a class
If your parish or school includes Heavenward Plus with your class, it lasts as long as their license does.
What stays free?
Every lesson (up to 3 new ones a day), the whole Bible, the Mass readings, your notes, review, practice, streaks and everything about prayer and the sacraments. Tips are optional, unlock nothing, and aren't tax-deductible donations.
Streaks and reminders
Why didn't I lose my streak on Sunday?
Sunday is a day of rest, so missing it never breaks your streak. You also get one grace day each week, because life happens.
Reminders
One gentle reminder a day, never on Sundays, and never after you've already practiced. Turn it on or off in Settings, under Reminders.
Classes and friends
Join a class
Settings, then Join a class, then type the code your teacher gives you. You'll need an account (ages 13 and up).
Hide your name
On your class page, switch off Show my name on the class board. Classmates then see "A classmate" instead.
Leave a class
Settings, then Account, then swipe left on the class and tap Leave.
For teachers
Create classes and run live quizzes on the catechist dashboard, and see For parishes and schools.
About the content
Is it approved by the Church?
Not yet. Heavenward is an independent app, written in the Catholic tradition and aligned with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It doesn't have an imprimatur or the approval of any bishop or diocese. The lessons are awaiting theological review.
Found a mistake?
Please tell us! Email support@heavenward.app with the lesson name and what you noticed.
Is it in Spanish?
Partly: the app's screens, the prayers, the first five units and the guides to Confession and the Mass, so far.
